What are Exif tags?

Exchangeable image file format (Exif) is a specification for the image file format used by digital cameras. Basically, when you take a picture with a modern digital camera, a lot of information is encoded in the image itself e.g. the camera model, make, date and time the image was taken, camera exposure time, flash settings etc. If your camera is GPS enabled, even the GPS information may be encoded into the image. Exif tags can be found in Jpeg and Tiff files.

You can see the values of some of the Exif tags by viewing the advanced properties of a photo image file using Windows Explorer:

Image Sort uses some of these Exif tags to help you sort and/or rename your image files, and other products in the Simple Image Tools family allow you to create folders and rename files using Exif tags. For more information, see Using tags to name folder and files.
